Jan 13, Colombo: Gampaha District Disaster Management Center says more than 300 houses have been damaged due to strong winds that blew across Divulapitiya Badalgama area.
Gale force winds lashed across Walpita, Katukirinda and several other areas and houses in Badalgama, Katukenda, Alugolla, Dicklanda and Heeralugedera areas have been damaged by fallen trees and other debris.
Trees that have been fallen onto the streets were removed with the assistance of Sri Lanka Army under the guidance of Gampaha District Disaster Management Center.
Deputy Director of Emergency Operations of the Disaster Management Centre Ravi Jayaratne said that no deaths are reported but several have been hospitalized with injuries.
The National Insurance Trust Fund has deployed 12 teams to estimate the damages to grant insurance compensations for the victims, state radio reported.
Meanwhile, media spokesman of the Ceylon electricity Board says that additional workers have been deployed to repair the damaged power supply.
