Jan 12, Colombo: Sri Lanka Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said that 50,000 housing units will be constructed soon for the Colombo city dwellers and a sum of Rs, 75 million has been set aside for the purpose.
The houses will be made available on easy loan terms to middle income earners, the Premier said.
The Prime Minister disclosed this at a public rally held in Wellawatta today in support of the Colombo United National Party (UNP) mayoral candidate Rosy Senanayake.
The Premier further said that all details regarding the beautification of the Colombo city came to be known by the Prime Minister. After three years the country is continuing to pay for those expenses busting the Treasury.
In Colombo North, Colombo Central and Borella, the biggest problem is drug addiction. Action is now being taken to eradicate this menace, he said.
Measures are taken to construct 50,000 houses at a cost of 75 million rupees for the middle income earners. The National Savings Bank will have a scheme to lend the amount at no rate for 3-5 years, he said.
