* President opens UPFA election campaign center, first public rally today in Anuradhapura

Jan 10, Colombo: Sri Lanka President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday commencing the propaganda program of the Sri Lanka Freedom party (SLFP) -led United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) for the upcoming local government elections opened the 'Free Media Centre' which would be the center for all election campaigning activities.

The Centre has been established at No 65, Ananda Rajakaruna Mawatha in Colombo 10.

At the occasion, the media was briefed on the party's media campaign that would be implemented for the local government elections.

President Sirisena also launched the website (

Ministers Susil Premajayantha, S.B. Dissanayake, A.H.M. Fowzie, Mahinda Amaraweera, Chandima Weerakkody, Thilanga Sumathipala, Anuradha Jayaratne and SLFP members were present at the launch.

Meanwhile, the inaugural rally of the series of public election rallies organized by the SLFP-led UPFA will be held today under the patronage of the SLFP leader, President Sirisena at 2 pm in Anuradhapura.

President Maithripala Sirisena, SLFP General Secretary Minister Duminda Dissanayake, UPFA General Secretary Minister Mahinda Amaraweera, Minister Susil Premajayantha and other party leaders will attend the meeting after receiving the blessings of the Sri Maha Bodhi and Ruwanweli Seya.

It is also planned to present the UPFA's policy statement and an action plan on maintaining UPFA-controlled local authorities using new technology and new management practices as people-friendly and clean institutions.

Minister Susil Premajayantha said that all candidates and supporters of the Anuradhapura district will participate in the rally while a limited number will arrive from Colombo.
