* Colombo Crime Division to investigate the incident between Asoka Ranwala and Sapugaskanda OIC
Sat, Jan 6, 2018, 12:44 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Jan 06, Colombo: Minister of Law and Order and Southern Development Sagala Ratnayaka has ordered the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) to investigate the incident between the JVP Western Provincial Councilor Asoka Ranwala and the Acting OIC of the Sapugaskanda Police station.

The Minister has ordered the Colombo Crimes Division to submit an urgent report on the incident in which both the councilor and the officer are accusing each other.

JVP Western Province Councilor Asoka Ranwala was arrested Thursday night for allegedly threatening the acting OIC of Sapugaskanda Police station.

He was remanded until January 19 when he was produced before the acting Negombo Magistrate yesterday.

According to the police, the councilor has come to the police station to inquire about an arrest of youth who was allegedly assaulted by the police. The councilor has demanded the police to release the youth and when the acting OIC refused the request, the councilor has threatened the senior officer, the police said.

However the councilor alleges that he was assaulted by the Sapugaskanda OIC when he questioned about the youth.
