Feb 25, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has been sworn in as the new Cabinet Minister of Law and Order, after the second cabinet reshuffle of the unity government of United National Party (UNP)and United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA).
Sri Lanka President Maithripala Sirisena carried out a Cabinet reshuffle at the Presidential Secretariat on Sunday (25) changing ministerial portfolios of number of United National Party (UNP) ministers.
Under the reshuffle six Ministers of Cabinet, three State Ministers and one Deputy Minister were sworn in before the President.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was given the Law and Order portfolio in addition to his ministerial portfolio of National Policy and Economic Affairs.
Sagala Ratnayake, who held the portfolios of Law and Order and Southern Development, has been sworn in as the new Minister of Youth Affairs and Southern Development.
Expressing his views at this event, the President said that in the future subject areas of some ministries will be changed and will come under purview of more appropriate institutions.
He also said that cabinet reshuffle of UPFA Ministers will be done within the next two weeks and further said that necessary changes to be made in State institutions and Corporations in the future to enhance efficiency.
President Sirisena said that the future plans of the government will be implemented successfully for the betterment of the public while doing the necessary alterations and rectifications taking into consideration of the message given to the government by the people at the recent local government elections.
