* Japanese company awarded contract to construct 3rd phase of Sri Lanka's Central Expressway

Feb 22, Colombo: The Sri Lankan Government has received the cabinet approval to award the contract for the construction of the 3rd phase of Central Expressway to M/S Taisei Corporation of Japan.

A statement on the decisions taken at the cabinet meeting on Tuesday (20) said Japan's Tokyo Mitsubishi Bank has agreed to provide funds of Japanese Yen 100 billion (approximately US$ 932 million) to construct the 32.5-kilometer third segment of the expressway from Kurunegala, Pothuhera to Galagedara via Rambukkana.

Accordingly, the proposal put forward by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs to award the contract for the construction of the third phase to Japan's M/s Taisei Corporation received the cabinet's approval.
