Feb 05, Colombo: A petition was filed in the Supreme Court requesting the court to reject the two nomination papers filed by the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) and the Jana Setha Peramuna for Attanagalla Pradeshiya Sabha.
The petition has been filed by the General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, Minister Duminda Dissanayake and two others naming Election Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya and 108 others as respondents.
The petitioners claim that candidate Harsha Lakmal Dayarathne has been nominated in both nomination papers of SLPP and Jana Setha Peramuna for the Attanagalla Pradeshiya Sabha.
Since listing the name of the same candidate in nomination papers of two parties is against the election laws, the petitioners request the court to reject both.
The names of two candidates in the nomination list for the election are against the. Therefore, the petitioners have requested the court to invalidate the relevant nominations by both SLPP and Jana Setha Peramuna.
