Feb 03, Colombo: Sri Lanka Navy personnel based on information received have arrested two Indian nationals attempting to smuggle in a stock of heroin and illegal tobacco products on a small boat in the seas off the northwest coast yesterday.

A group of naval personnel attached to the North Central Naval Command and Special Boat Squadron apprehended the two Indian nationals attempting to smuggle 425g of heroin and a stock of tobacco products (Beedi) via sea by a small fishing boat (Vallam) into the country on Friday.

The suspects were held in the Sri Lankan territorial waters, east of the Mannar Lighthouse.

The apprehended Indian nationals along with heroin, fishing boat and tobacco products were handed over to the Thalaimannar Police for onward action, the Navy said.
