* CID investigations reveal that same person directed all high profile crimes during previous regime

Apr 21, Colombo: The Criminal Investigation Department's investigations reveal that a strong hand directed the five serious murders and assaults that are being investigated by the CID and are being heard in Courts.

The assassination of the former editor of The Sunday Leader Lasantha Wickrematunge, abduction of journalist Ekneligoda, killing of 27 inmates at Welikada prison, assault on journalist Keith Noyahr attack and Rathupaswala attack on protesters are the five high profile crimes that are believed to be carried out on the instructions of a powerful person during the previous regime.

The CID investigations have revealed that all these crimes were very well planned.

Although some police, defense intelligence and other intelligence services personnel have been arrested and legal action have been taken against them in connection with the crimes, investigations to arrest the person who has directed the crimes are still being conducted, the CID said.

The CID expects to submit the information obtained from the investigations on how this person is connected to all the crimes to the court and obtain court's permission to record a statement from him and to take further legal action.

The Criminal Investigation Department has been able to uncover important information about the person, who ordered the attacks and later instructed the police to botch the investigations on the crimes, from the police officers and other security personnel arrested and remanded for those five cases, especially from the police officers arrested in connection with the Lasantha Wickrematunge murder case.

The CID has taken steps to produce the information obtained about the main suspect in courts and take legal action against him on the advice of the court.
