* Minister Champika Ranawaka proposes an entirely new cabinet, not a reshuffle
Tue, Apr 10, 2018, 11:38 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Apr 10, Colombo: Minister of Megapolis and Western Development Champika Ranawaka has proposed to form an entirely new cabinet in order to resolve the crisis that has arisen within the unity government following the no confidence motion brought by the Joint Opposition against the Prime Minister.

Minister Ranawaka at the cabinet meeting today (10) has reportedly presented three alternative proposals to appoint a new cabinet instead of a cabinet reshuffle.

One alternative proposal is if the 42 Sri Lanka Freedom Party MPs and 106 United National Front MPs jointly form the government, a new cabinet should be appointed under a new political agreement and a governing program.

The other alternative is if the 16 SLFP ministers who voted for the no-confidence motion are removed from the government then the remaining 26 SLFP MPs and the UNP form a new government and appoint a new cabinet.

The third alternative is if the SLFP leave the unity government then the 106 MPs of UNP should form a government and limit the cabinet to 30 ministers.
