* Two Sri Lankan soldiers arrested over communal violence in Kandy

Apr 09, Colombo: The Terrorist Investigation Division (TID) today have arrested two Army Corporals in connection with the violent incidents based on religious hatred in Kandy district last month.

Police spokesman Superintendent of Police Ruwan Gunasekara said the TID arrested the two army personnel on charges of setting fire and damaging shops and religious places of worships in Poojapitiya and Ambatenna.

These two army corporals are currently in active service, SP Gunasekara said.

One of the arrested Subasinghe Mudiyanselage Anura Bandara Wijesinghe (34) is an Army Corporal attached to 143 Brigade Headquarters in Puttalam and the other suspect Malwane Gedara Hasitha Wijeratne (38) a Corporal attached to Training college of Mechanized Infantry Regimental Centre, Kekirawa. Both are residents of Kahawatte, Ambatenne.

They were to be handed over to the Poojapitiya Police today.

The Terrorism Investigations Division which commenced investigations into the anti-Muslim clashes earlier arrested 10 suspects for inciting violence and questioning of the suspects and the video footage from CCTV cameras haves led to the arrest of the army personnel.
