* UNP restructuring immediately after the No-confidence motion - Prime Minister pledges

Apr 03, Colombo: Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe today (03) informed the UNP Parliamentarians that steps will be taken to reform the United National Party (UNP), immediately after the no-confidence motion against the Government and the Prime Minister is defeated on April 4th .

Issuing a statement the UNP said, the Premier pledged to hand over the party responsibilities to a new group and take necessary steps to carry out the party reforms and strengthen the party to face upcoming provincial council elections and other elections.

The statement said the party will discuss the recommendations made by the committees appointed after the local government elections and take necessary measures to reorganize the party.

The Premier has said that before appointing the new officials of the party on April 30 by the Working Committee, measures will be taken to obtain the ideas of the senior leadership.

Accordingly the Working Committee and the parliamentary group of the United National Party will meet on the 7th and 8th of April for two special rounds of talks.

The final decisions of all the reorganization activities of the party will be taken at these meetings and a committee is to be appointed to oversee the implementation of the party re-organization activities.

After the discussions with the party chairman, general secretary and treasurer, the Prime Minister will inform the parliamentary group about the program of the committee.

The UNP stated that new members of the UNP will be named on the 30th of April.
