* Maldivian national nabbed at airport for smuggling gold jewelry worth Rs. 1.7 million

Sept 09, Colombo: Sri Lanka Customs officials at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake have arrested a Maldivian national, who was smuggling gold jewelry worth Rs. 1.7 million.

The suspect was a Malé national and arrived on a flight from Dubai FZ557.

Customs Media said the gold items were found during a search by the customs officials acting on a tip.

The suspect and the jewellery were handed over to the Katunayake airport Customs for further investigations. The jewellery were confiscated and the suspect was fined of Rs. 50,000.
