Sept 07, Sharjah: Three members of a Sri Lankan family living in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates have committed suicide, according to a report in the Gulf Today newspaper.
The Sharjah Police investigating the deaths believe three members of the family, a father,55, a mother, 52 and their teenage son have jumped to their deaths from the seventh floor of a hotel apartment in Sharjah last week.
Police have rescued two daughters, who tried to slash their wrists.
As soon as the police received a call, they rushed to the incident site where they found the three members already dead.
One of the daughters had serious injuries while the other had received moderate injuries. Police shifted the bodies to the forensic unit and the injured women to Al Kuwaiti hospital.
Police have held many people for interrogation and the investigation is still going on to determine the cause of the death.
A witness in a nearby building reported the incident and immediately a police force was rushed to the apartment, which was found closed.
An eyewitness said the police found cups, liquid medicines, pills and scattered papers at the scene. The witness added the family had been living in the building for more than a year and the woman had recently asked the owner of the hotel to reduce the rent because her husband, who worked as a gold designer in Dubai, had financial problems and had not received his salary for three months.
