* Joint Opposition calls for no-confidence motion against Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka

Sept 06, Colombo: The Joint Opposition, a group of parliamentarians of United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) is preparing to file a no-confidence motion against Minister of Reginal Development Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka over a statement he made criticizing the President.

Member of Parliament Prasanna Ranatunga told local media that the Joint Opposition plans to file a No-Confidence Motion against Minister Fonseka.

He said the members of the Joint Opposition will hold a discussion in Parliament today (6) on whether to bring a no-confidence motion against the former army commander.

Ranatunga said there are a number of accusations against Minister Fonseka including making a statement on the contrary to the President regarding the war crime allegations against the war heroes as a responsible minister in the government.

Minister Fonseka has come under criticism for disagreeing with President Maithripala Sirisena's statement that he will protect the war heroes and will not allow any foreign organization to "touch" them.

Field Marshal Fonseka criticizing the President Sirisena's statement said a leader should be on people's side and not on the side of the wrongdoers' who dressed in uniforms and are called war heroes.

The Joint opposition also plans to bring a no-confidence motion against the Minister of Health Dr. Rajitha Senaratne.
