* Probe into Principal for removing student on false allegations
Sat, Oct 21, 2017, 12:16 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Oct 21, Colombo: The North Central Province Department of Education has commenced a probe into a school principal over the expulsion of a female student from a school on false allegations of pregnancy.

Mrs. Nirmala Ekanayake, the Education Director of North Central Province said the Principal will be interdicted if her conduct is wrong and the child was removed from the school on a baseless allegation.

The Principal has expelled the grade 10 student of Madatugama Rewatha Vidyalaya, in Kekirawa education zone assuming the girl is pregnant since she vomited in the class.

Her parents however have claimed that she had vomited as she has not eaten her breakfast.

Medical tests conducted by the Dambulla Base Hospital have reportedly revealed that the student was neither molested nor pregnant.

Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam learning about the incident through media has instructed officials to look into the matter.

The Minister points out that it is a wrong for authorities to arbitrarily remove children from schools after they have been directed to schools to become better citizens.

Secretary to the Ministry of Education, Sunil Hettiarachchi, has been instructed to take swift action on the incident.
