* Malaysian national arrested for smuggling foreign currency worth over Rs. 54 million

Oct 19, Colombo: A foreign national who attempted to smuggle foreign currency out of Sri Lanka was arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) this morning, Sri Lanka Customs announced.

Sri Lanka Customs officials arrested a Malaysian national bound for Kuala Lumpur on Batik Air Malaysia flight OD186 carrying US$ 35,000 (Rs. 54.4 million).

The Customs officials became suspicious of the behavior of the 53-year-old individual and upon inspection the officials found the money carefully concealed in the luggage.

Further investigations are in progress.
