* Sri Lanka Navy arrests 8 Indian fishermen for poaching in Sri Lankan waters

Oct 17, Colombo: Sri Lanka Navy on early Tuesday has arrested 8 Indian fishermen and impounded their mechanized fishing boat for allegedly crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) and fishing in Sri Lankan waters.

According to Indian media reports, the Indian fishermen were from Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu.

The fishermen who have returned from fishing have said that they were surrounded by Sri Lankan Navy. . The Sri Lankan navy reportedly surrounded the fishermen when they were returning to the shore between Katchatheevu and Dhanushkodi.

The fishermen have complained that the Sri Lankan Navy destroyed their nets and boats after arresting the fishermen. The fishermen said that they incurred losses amounting to about Rs 75,000.
