Oct 05, Colombo: Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne says fully pledged free health services have been established in the country as a result of the successful program being implemented by the government in the health field.
The Minister was speaking at the opening ceremony of the new dialysis unit at Colombo National Hospital Thursday (05).
This is the second dialysis unit established at the Colombo National Hospital. Minister Senaratne admitted the first kidney patient to the unit by registering him at the opening ceremony.
Facilities at the new unit were completed under the Kidney Disease Prevention Program in accordance with the government initiative mooted by President Maithripala Sirisena at a total cost of 20 million rupees.
Four new renal dialysis machines were installed at the unit for the benefit of kidney patients. The new unit was established under the first phase of the project to increase the number of dialysis machines to 35 at the Colombo National Hospital.
The cost for the whole project is estimated at 90 million rupees.
Dr. Senaratne noted that measures have been taken to provide stents and eye lenses under the government relief initiative.
Ministry officials, hospital authorities, scholars in the medical field were also present at the occasion.
