Thu, Oct 5, 2017, 08:19 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Oct 05, Colombo: All faculties of the Kelaniya University except the Medical Faculty have been temporarily closed from today until further notice following a brawl that erupted between two groups of students.

Accordingly, the University authorities have called students of all faculties other than the Medical Faculty to leave the University premises and the hostels.

Eight students sustained injuries following the clash that occurred between the two student groups. They have been admitted to the Kiribathgoda Base Hospital. All students except two have left the hospital after receiving treatment.

Director of the Media Unit of the Kelaniya University Prof. Rohana Lakshman said the University administration decided to close the University in order to avoid further damage to lives and properties since the discussions held between the two groups failed to resolve the conflict.

The Exhibition which was organized to mark the 50th Anniversary of the Science Faculty of the University has also been suspended.
