* Sri Lanka to call for proposals to recommence Indo - Lanka Ferry Service between Colombo and Tuticorin
Wed, Oct 4, 2017, 09:47 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Oct 04, Colombo: The government is considering to relaunch the ferry service between Colombo and Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu state of India.

The government is of the view that commencement of passenger ship services between Sri Lanka and India will help to build closer ties between the two countries, promote cultural and economic ties, and promote trade-tourism and employment creation.

Applications have been called for Expression of Interest (EOI) for the implementation of the Passenger Transport Operations Project between ports of Colombo and Tuticorin, but there has been no adequate response.

Hence, the proposal made by Ports and Shipping Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe to cancel the current procurement process and to recall EOIs, was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
