Mon, Oct 2, 2017, 12:42 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Oct 02, Colombo: A program to provide coconuts to the public at a concessionary price will be launched from today, according to the Coconut Cultivation Board.

Coconuts will be sold at a concessionary rate of Rs. 65 from the mobile vehicles of Coconut Cultivation Board in Colombo and suburbs starting from 10:00 a.m., Coconut Cultivation Board chairman Kapila Yakandawala said. There is a limit of 10 coconuts per person.

The aim is to provide the coconuts obtained from the "Kapruka" societies directly to consumers relieving the consumer from the middleman's clutch.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce said the coconuts will be sold to consumers at a lower price from today at all Sathosa outlets.

The Ministry said although in the past coconuts were mot sold at the Sathosa stores, the current program is being launched as a solution to the recent price increase in coconuts by traders.
