* Sri Lanka PM instructs to provide immediate relief to the people affected

Nov 30, Colombo: Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has instructed the Disaster Management Ministry and the National Insurance Trust Fund to immediately provide a sum of 10,000 rupees per family as an initial allowance to all those affected by the adverse weather conditions.

He has also instructed the relevant District Secretaries to immediately begin work related to assessing the damages caused to life and property.

A party leaders meeting chaired by the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was held at the parliament today to discuss what further measures should be taken in this respect.

Meanwhile, Minister of Home Affairs, Vajira Abeywardena said that the government has taken measures to immediately provide relief to those affected by the prevailing adverse weather conditions and to compensate the affected properties.

Minister Abeywardena informed the public to immediately inform the Ministry of Home Affairs at the emergency number 1902, if any damage occurs.

"We have already taken immediate steps to provide relief on the instructions of the President and the Prime Minister. We will also take measures to compensate the damaged property. Therefore we urge you to stay safe as long as possible due to the emergency situation. Also, do not be fooled by misleading information," the Minister said.

The Minister instructed the affected people to give information to the Grama Niladhari of their respective area regarding the damaged houses and other properties and according to the information given, immediate measures will be taken to grant compensation.
