* Petition against delimitation gazette notification withdrawn

Nov 30, Colombo: The petition filed in the Court of Appeals against the implementation of the gazette notification issued on delimitation of local authorities in relation to the Local Government elections has been withdrawn.

The petitioners through their lawyer has withdrawn the petition filed by the petitioners requesting the cancellation of the gazette notification.

The lawyer representing the petitioners requested the permission to withdraw the petition according to the agreement reached with the subject minister.

The Attorney General representing the respondents stated that they have no objection to withdrawing the petition.

Accordingly, the Court of Appeal informed that the petition was dismissed.

The injunction order issued against the gazette notification until 4th December was accordingly, withdrawn.

The petition alleged that the gazette was issued by the subject minister in violation of the recommendations made by the National Delimitation Committee implementation of the gazette notification would cause a grave injustice to the petitioners.

The injection prevented the government from holding local government elections to the authorities that were affected by the gazette.
