Nov 23, Colombo: The Dollar Academy Pipers from Scotland are currently in Sri Lanka. The 10 piece band is in Colombo ahead of the National Day of Scotland "St. Andrew's Day" - celebrated each year on the 30th of November.

The Pipers will be performing at a series of events in Colombo, including at the St Andrew's Ball on 24th November and at the St Andrew's Scots Kirk on Galle Road on Sunday 26th November.

The Dollar Academy pipe band has won the Scottish Championship for thirteen consecutive years and competes in the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association at juvenile and novice grade and in 2014 were crowned World Champions.

St Andrew is Scotland's patron saint and on November 30 the British High Commission celebrates St Andrew's Day with missions across the world.

Bagpipes have been around for at least 4.000 years and are found, in many formats, throughout the World. The bagpipes are regarded now as the national instrument of Scotland ranking along with the kilt as part of the proud heritage of Scotland.
