Nov 10, Colombo: Piyasena Gamage was sworn in before the Speaker today as a parliamentarian from the Galle district to fill the seat vacated by the disqualification of former MP, Geetha Kumarasinghe.

The former United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) MP Geetha Kumarasinghe was deprived of her parliamentary seat following the decision of the Supreme Court that she was not eligible to be a Member of Parliament due to her dual citizenship.

Piyasena Gamage was next in the United People's Freedom Alliance preferential votes list obtaining 47,247 preferential votes at the 2015 General Election.

Gamage sworn in as a UPFA parliamentarian before the Speaker Karu Jayasuriya and sat in the government side. Former MP Geetha Kumarasinghe represented the joint opposition.
