* President appoints committee to implement SAITM solutions

Nov 06, Colombo: Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena today appointed a nine-member committee to implement the proposed solutions to resolve the issue surrounding the Medical Faculty of the South Asian Institute of Technology and medicine (SAITM).

The Committee will also comprise three observers from three relevant organizations. It will be headed by the Deputy Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs Dr. Harsha de Silva.

The other members of the Committee are: Janaka Sugathadasa, Secretary to the Ministry of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine, D. C. Dissanayake, Secretary to the Ministry of Higher Education and Highways, Prof. Mohan de Silva, Chairman, University Grant Commission, Prof. Colvin Gunaratne, Chairman, Sri Lanka Medical Council, Prof. Lakshman Dissanayake, Vice Chancellor, University of Colombo, Prof. Sampath Amaratunga, Vice Chancellor, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Prof. Jenifer Perera, Dean, University of Colombo, Prof. Nilanthi de Silva, Dean, University of Kelaniya.

The observers are from Government Medical Officers' Association, Medical Faculty Lecturers' Association and Medical Students' Parents Association, each.
