* Five people caught in flash floods drowned, 3 missing in Laggala

Nov 05, Colombo: at least five persons who went bathing in Thelgamuwa Oya in the Laggala police division in Matale have drowned and three others are still missing, following flash floods.

The tragedy occurred on Saturday when the victims who were bathing in the stream were caught on the strong water currents and swept away, the police said.

Five bodies were recovered in a joint operation of the Navy divers, police and life-saving teams along with the residents.

Search operations are being conducted to find three others missing persons.
