Fri, Nov 3, 2017, 11:35 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Nov 03, Colombo: General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Minister Duminda Dissanayake says the United National Party (UNP) and the SlFP will contest the upcoming local government elections independently.

Minister Dissanayake disclosed this to media today following a meeting between the SLFP parliamentarians and the leader of SLFP, President Maithripala Sirisena at the Presidential Secretariat.

Minister Dissanayake said it was decided to contest the local government polls independently as a wider alliance is led by the SLFP. He affirmed that the UNP and the SLFP will not contest the elections jointly.

He said SLFP is determined to win the local government elections. He pointed out that all party members will be committed to achieve this goal.
