* Singapore Foreign Affairs Minister begins visit to Sri Lanka today

July 17, Colombo: The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Singapore Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan will undertake an official visit to Sri Lanka from 17-21 July 2017. Minister Balakrishnan will visit Colombo and Jaffna Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

In Colombo, Minister Balakrishnan will call on President Maithripala Sirisena and be hosted to dinner by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The Foreign Minister will meet his Si Lankan counterpart Minister Ravi Karunanayake on Tuesday 18 July 2017 for bilateral talks, which would be followed by Statements to the Media.

Minister Balakrishnan will meet Minister of Foreign Affairs Ravi Karunanayake, Minister of Finance and Mass Media Mangala Samaraweera, Minister of Megapolis and Western Development Champika Ranawaka, Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade Malik Samarawickrama, Minister of Law and Order and Southern Development Sagala Ratnayaka and Leader of the Opposition R. Sampanthan.

Minister Balakrishnan will also witness the signing of a MOU between the Singapore Red Cross and the Sri Lankan Red Cross on relief and rehabilitation programs in Sri Lanka.

In Jaffna, Minister Balakrishnan will meet Governor of the Northern Province Reginald Cooray and Chief Minister of the Northern Province C V Wigneswaran and have an interaction with Businessmen of the Chamber of Commerce of Jaffna.

Minister Balakrishnan will participate in a handover ceremony for a donation of books from the Singapore National Library Board to the Jaffna Public Library. The Minister would also visit the University of Jaffna to take part in the launch of the Lee Foundation-SingHealth Orthopedic Development Programme at the Medical Faculty.

Minister Balakrishnan will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
