* Cause for deaths in Jaffna and Mullaitivu due to illness

Jan 01, Colombo: Investigations have revealed that the series of deaths reported in the Northern Province was due to a certain illnesses.

Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Dr. Rajitha Senaratne had instructed the related sectors to conduct an investigation on the deaths reported in the Jaffna and Mullaitivu districts during last three months.

Accordingly, initial investigations were carried out by the Epidemiological Department under the patronage of Dr. Anil Dissanayake, Director of the Epidemiology Unit with the assistance of Provincial and district Health Services officers, the Health Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Ministry said.

Investigations have revealed that these deaths had been caused due to various diseases identified clinically. It was also confirmed that the deaths had not been caused in one family or among their relatives. The Epidemiology Unit has emphasized that it has been scientifically proven that there is no truth in rumors that the deaths had resulted due to an identified cause.
