Dec 31, Colombo: Sri Lanka Navy has arrested 13 Indian fishermen on Sunday for allegedly crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) and fishing in Sri Lankan territorial waters.
A Fast Attack Craft attached to the Northern Naval Command arrested the Tamil Nadu fishermen along with 2 trawlers for engaging in illegal fishing in the Sri Lankan territorial waters northeast of Kachchativu Island this morning (31 December).
The arrested fishermen were brought to the naval base SLNS Uttara in Kankasanthurai. Meanwhile, the trawlers had been taken to SLNS Elara in Karainagar.
The fishermen were handed over to the Assistant Fisheries Director of Jaffna for onward legal action.
Earlier on December 12, Sri Lanka Navy arrested 27 Indian fishermen and seized five trawlers when they were fishing in the seas off Delft Island of Jaffna.
