* Several Podujana Peramuna nominations rejected for lack of female representation

Dec 14, Colombo: The nominations submitted by the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) for several local government bodies were rejected today by the election officials.

Local Government polls nominations from the SLPP for Weligama and Panadura Municipal Councils, Maharagama Urban Council, Badulla, Mahiyangana, Agalawatta Pradeshiya Sabhas have been rejected.

SLPP nomination for Maharagama Urban Council was rejected due to a lack of female representation, according to the election officials while the SLPP nomination for Weligama had been rejected by Matara District Returning Office since it had not been submitted by a member of the party or an authorized agent.

It has also been reported that the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) nominations for the local government polls Dehiattakandiya and Padiyatalawa have also been rejected due to the submission by a person other than the authorized agent of the party.

Today is the last day to submit nominations for the first 93 local government bodies.

The nominations for the remaining 248 institutions will be accepted from Dec 18 -21.
