* MIS on Paddy Production in Sri Lanka established
Mon, Dec 4, 2017, 11:44 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Dec 04, Colombo: The National Policy Development Office under the Ministry of National Policies and Economic Affairs has announced the establishment of a Management Information System (MIS) on paddy production in Sri Lanka.

The government every year makes a serious effort to stabilize the price of paddy and rice, but the efforts are generally not successful due to unavailability of a comprehensive information system at one point.

A complete database that includes information on extent planned to be cultivated, actual extent cultivated, paddy production, stocks available, stock purchased by Paddy Marketing Board, pledged loans granted, import and export etc. was not available.

Therefore, an On-line Database System including all relevant information which could then easily be accessed by any official or public at any time was planned.

Accordingly, Department of National Planning together with the University of Kelaniya has established a MIS with the Central Programme Management Unit of the Ministry of National Policies and Economic Affairs, which is under the purview of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The most salient part of the database is to obtain the paddy and rice stocks available in each district of the country at a given time. This task is going to be achieved with the support of the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) and the Paddy Marketing Board (PMB).

The database has been updated when harvesting commenced in the Maha Season in September. The database can be accessed through the following link https://sis.kln.ac.lk/storeMain/
