* French Naval ship Auvergne arrives at Sri Lankan port on goodwill visit

Dec 03, Colombo: Sri Lanka Navy, in accordance with naval traditions, welcomed a French naval ship arrived at the Port of Colombo on Sunday.

The French Navy's newest FREMM frigate FS Auvergne arrived at the port of Colombo on a goodwill visit on 03 December 2017, the Navy said.

The Ambassador of France to Sri Lanka, Jean-Marin Schuh and several officials from the French Embassy were present at the harbor premises to receive the French vessel.

The 142-meter long and 20-meter wide French ship with a displacement of 6000 tonnes has a complement of 145 naval personnel. The heavily-armed FREMM frigate is equipped with the most effective weapon systems and equipment.

During its four-day official visit to the country, the ship's crew is scheduled to take part in several programs including sporting engagements organized by the Sri Lanka Navy, with the aim of exchanging professional skills and strengthening camaraderie between the two navies.

FNS Auvergne is due to leave for her next port of call on 06th of this month.
