Dec 03, Colombo: Minister of Power and Renewable Energy Ranjith Siyambalapitiya says power will be restored to all areas in the island without electricity due to the tropical storm by the end of today with the assistance of Sri Lanka Army troops.

The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) with the support of Army has restored more than 800,000 power connections that were disrupted since Wednesday night due to bad weather.

Sri Lanka Army troops deployed to provide relief services to the affected areas in liaison with Ceylon Electricity Board authorities and Divisional Secretariat officials are supporting power restoration work as of Saturday (02).

The Minister said 1,000,700 power outages have been reported and around 200,000 houses are still without electricity since Wednesday night. However, priority will be given to restore power to essential services first, he added.
