* Government to take over Kuliyapitiya Base Hospital

Aug 17, Colombo: Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Dr. Rajitha Senaratne says the Kuliyapitiya Base Hospital under the North Western Provincial Council will be taken over by the government.

The Minister said the government has taken a policy decision to establish a medical faculty at the Wayamba University and decision to take over the Kuliyapitiya Base Hospital is a step in establishing the medical faculty.

After taking over, the Kuliyapitiya Base Hospital will be developed as a teaching hospital, the Minister said.

The Minister has given instructions to prepare the relevant cabinet paper.

The committee appointed by the University Grant Commission under the chairmanship of Prof. Mohan De Silva is represented by the Ministry of Health, Wayamba University and the Education Ministry.

Medical faculties will also be established at University of Sabaragamuwa and the University of Moratuwa, the Minister said.
