* STF police get shot at during raid in Negombo

Aug 12, Colombo: Officers of the Police Special Task Force who were conducting an inquiry into a vehicle traveling with a stock of fire arms in Kurana, Negombo today came under fire from the occupants of the vehicle.

The police officers have returned fire injuring two of the suspects, the Police Media Unit said.

The police have arrested the two individuals who received injuries. The suspects are receiving treatment at the Negombo Hospital amidst police protection.

The police seized two T56 firearms and a pistol along with the vehicle the suspects used.

The Police said the STF conducted the raid based on a tip off that the group of gangsters were traveling in a van with firearms on the way to commit a crime.
