Thu, Aug 10, 2017, 11:52 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Aug 10, Colombo: Sri Lanka's beleaguered Foreign Affairs Minister Ravi Karunanayake is due to make a special statement before the Parliament today.

Speaker of parliament Karu Jayasuriya is expected to take a decision today on the no-confidence motion brought by the Joint Opposition MPs against Minister Karunanayake.

According to the government sources President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had met with Minister Ravi Karunanayake at a special meeting held at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday.

It is speculated that the former finance minister would resign after the special statement in parliament.

The Minister is alleged to have obtained a lease close to Rs. 8.7 million from Arjun Aloysius, the former CEO of Perpetual Treasuries for a fifth-floor super luxury condominium apartment at the Monarch residencies.

The Minister denied to have known of the transaction when he was questioned about the apartment before the Presidential Commission appointed to probe the Central Bank bond scam on August 02.
