Wed, Aug 9, 2017, 12:13 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Aug 09, Colombo: The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) cabinet ministers have requested President Maithripala Sirisena to remove Minister Ravi Karunanayake from the post of Cabinet Minister of Foreign Affairs, government sources said.

The sources said the Ministers made this request during an emergency meeting with the President at the President's official residence.

Meanwhile. Deputy Speaker Thilanga Sumathipala yesterday said that Foreign Minister Ravi Karunanayake should resign immediately to save the honor of the government.

He said that if Minister Karunanayake continued to hold his position the government would be embarrassed and inconvenienced.

The Speaker will make a decision on the no-confidence motion against Minister Karunanayake tomorrow.
