* New cancer treatment unit at Kandy Hospital to be completed next year

Aug 07, Colombo: Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine, Dr. Rajitha Senaratne has informed the construction company building the new 12-story cancer treatment unit at the Kandy General Hospital to complete the construction work in 2018.

The Minister, who made a visit to the Kandy Hospital to inspect the progress of the new unit, instructed the company to expedite the construction.

The Minister also instructed the Health Ministry officials to order the necessary equipment to the hospital.

A blood transfusion center will also be established at the 380-bed hospital.

The Health Minister says the new cancer unit is being built to be prepared for the anticipated rise in the non-communicable diseases such as cancer in the future.
