Aug 06, Colombo: Sri Lanka Navy, in accordance with naval traditions, on Sunday ceremonially welcomed the medical vessel of Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy, Heping Fangzhou (Peace Ark) arrived at the port of Colombo on a goodwill visit.
Deputy Area Commander Western Naval Area, Commodore Sanath Uthpala and senior navy officers and a large number of Chinese nationals in Sri Lanka were present to welcome the ship.
During the ship's four day official visit from August 6-9, Deputy Chief of Staff of East Sea Fleet, PLA Navy, Rear Admiral Guan Bailin, Commanding Officer of the ship Captain Guo Baofeng and senior officers of Ark Peace are expected to meet with the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne.
During its stay, the medical staff of the ship partnering with the medical personnel of the Sri Lanka Navy is scheduled to conduct several medical camps as well. Moreover, arrangements have been made ready for Sri Lankan doctors and medical students to get onboard this Hospital Ship to experience a rare opportunity.
The state of the art ship has been constructed in a bid to engage swiftly in humanitarian response to disasters around the world and it is also popularly known as Ark Peace.
The ship is equipped with all modern in-house facilities such as; theaters, intensive care units, consultant medical services, residential treatment units and Computerized Tomography Machines. Meanwhile, the helicopter onboard can be utilized in swift transfer of patients at an emergency.
The ship which is 178 m in length and 24 m in width, comprises a crew of 381. The ship, during her circumnavigation has treated over 120,000 people across the globe.
The ship will leave the Colombo harbor on 09th August.
