Sat, Aug 5, 2017, 07:02 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Aug 05, Colombo: Another suspect has been arrested in connection with last month's attack on two police officers attached to the Kopai Police station in Jaffna in Kondavil, police said.

The suspect was arrested during a raid carried out by a team of Terrorist Investigation Division (TID) officers. A motorcycle belonging to the suspect was also taken into custody during the raid.

The suspect, Pushparasa Dakshan, is a resident of Kokuvil West, Kokuvil and Kopai in Jaffna.

The suspect has been handed over to the Jaffna Police for further investigations and is due to be produced before the Jaffna Magistrate's Court.

Two policemen inquiring a complaint came under attack of a gang of criminals, who arrived at the scene of the incident on four motorcycles and assaulted the policemen with swords and clubs in Kopai on 30 July.

The assailants are believed to be members of the Ava gang, a sword-wielding group of criminals roaming the Northern city on motorcycles.
