Sun, May 28, 2017, 12:35 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

May 28, Colombo: Due to heavy rains several access roads to the Southern Expressway has been submerged and part of the Expressway has been closed temporarily for the motorists, the police said.

Due to the flooding of the Southern Expressway between Dodangoda and Galanigama the traffic on both directions is restricted.

The stretch of the expressway from Pinnaduwa to Matara was closed since last night as the access roads at Imaduwa, kokmaduva and Godagarna interchanges were inundated.

Northbound vehicles travelling to Colombo from Galle have to exit at the Welipenna interchange and can reenter the highway at the Galanigama interchange. Dodamgoda interchange cannot be used to travel towards Kalutara due to the flood situation.

All motorists are requested to contact the 1969 hotline to obtain further information on the situation of the entry/exit points along the Southern Expressway, as some of the roads leading up to these entry/exit points have been submerged by flood waters.
