* President reviews progress of independent commissions

May 18, Colombo: President Maithripala Sirisena on Wednesday chaired a progress review meeting of independent commissions which were established under the 19th Amendment to the Constitution at the Presidential Secretariat.

The chairpersons, secretaries and members of Public Service Commission, Elections Commission, National Police Commission, Audit Commission, Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission, Finance Commission, Delimitation Commission and National Procurement Commission participated in the discussion.

The President reviewed new suggestions, opinions, ideas and problems presented by the members of the independent commissions and advised them to prepare an action plan immediately to ensure proper implementation of the work of the commissions.

The President pointed out the need to pass the legislation including the audit act, completing of staff in the commissions and addressing other shortcomings.

Secretary to the President Mr. P.B Abeykoon and other officers joined the discussion.
