* Building collapses in Sri Lanka capital injuring 21

May 18, Colombo: A five-story building under construction in a suburb of Sri Lanka's capital Colombo collapsed Thursday, injuring at least 21 people, police said.

The injured in the mishap have been rushed to nearby hospitals while rescue efforts are underway at the site in Wellawatte, the police said.

Rescue efforts are currently underway searching for people who might be trapped inside the building, the police said.

Nearby residents have been evacuated as the building is sinking, according to local media reports.

The reason for the collapse was not immediately known.
