* Sri Lanka police arrest two for prison bus shooting

Mar 17, Colombo: The Colombo Crimes Division of Sri Lanka Police today arrested a man and a woman for their involvement in the last month's shooting at a prison bus in Kalutara that killed seven people.

Seven people including an underworld leader and two prison officers were killed on 27 February when a prison bus transporting prisoners was ambushed on the main road in the south western town of Kalutara.

The Prison bus was transporting a group of prisoners from Kalutara prison to Kaduwela Magistrate Court when it came under fire. Among the dead was a notorious underworld figure Aruna Damith Udayanga alias 'Samayan'.

The female suspect was arrested in Galle. She is charged with providing lodging to one of the shooters in the incident and also helping him to abscond after the incident.

The arrested male, a resident of Pinwatte, Panadura is suspected of providing information to the group that carried out the shooting.

According to initial investigations, the gunmen, who remain at large, were attired in clothes similar to police uniforms.

The two suspects are being interrogated extensively, the police said.
