* Sri Lanka Navy ship takes part in LIMA-2017 maritime defense exhibition in Malaysia

Mar 14, Colombo: Sri Lanka Navy's Flagship Offshore Patrol Vessel, SLNS Sayura has left for Malaysia this evening (14) from the Port of Colombo, to take part in the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA) 2017 in Malaysia.

The Langkawi International Maritime & Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA), the largest show of its kind within the Asia Pacific region, will be held from 21 - 25 March 2017 at the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre, in Langkawi Island.

The ship bade farewell in accordance with naval traditions prior to her departure from the Colombo Harbor and the occasion was attended by the Commander Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral, Niraja Attygalle and several senior officers, the Navy said.

During this visit, Commodore Prasanna Amaradasa will command the ship with a complement of 215 naval personnel.

The biennial defense exhibition is held since 1991 in a bid to strengthen international cooperation among countries and this year's exhibition marks its 14th successful effort. Around 550 companies from 38 countries and 40 ships across from the globe are expected to take part in LIMA -2017 this year.

Twenty four personnel from the recently established SLN Marine Battalion will also feature in this year's exhibition.

A wide range of programs including cultural shows, fleet reviews, joint naval and air exercises are scheduled to be held as part of LIMA-2017.
