* Hartal in North demanding to withdraw the no confidence motion against Chief Minister
Fri, Jun 16, 2017, 07:24 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

June 16, Colombo: A hartal is being held in Sri Lanka's North Friday demanding to withdraw the no-confidence motion against the Chief Minister of the Northern Province C.V. Wigneswaran.

All the shops in Jaffna have been closed but the services at state institutions are continuing normally, reports from Jaffna say.

The Hartal has been organized by the Tamil People's Council (TPC) headed by the Chief Minister Wigneswaran and professionals and public organizations have also joined the Hartal.

A no-confidence motion with signatures of 21 members in the 38-member Northern Council has been handed over to the Northern Province Governor Reginald Cooray yesterday by some NPC members after the Chief Minister, on the recommendations made by a committee appointed to probe corruption, has called for the resignation of Provincial Ministers of Education and Agriculture over corruption and fraud allegations.
