* 'Puravesi Athwela' humanitarian train travels from Jaffna with flood relief

June 10, Jaffna: 'Puravesi Athwela', the special train carrying the relief goods from North to South left the northernmost Kankasanthurai station today and heading south.

The humanitarian train jointly organized by the Presidential Secretariat and the Railway Department will along the way collect relief material to be distributed to those who were affected by the recent floods and landslides in the South.

The special train left the Kankasanthurai Station today and reached the Jaffna station at 5.30 a.m.

The train will stop at Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Vavuniya, Medawachchiya, Anuradhapura, Maho, Ganewatta, Kurunegala, Polgahawela, Alawwa, Ambepussa, Meerigama, Veyangoda, Gampaha, Ganemulla, Ragama, Hunupitiya, Kelaniya, Dematagoda, Maradana, Fort, Mount Lavinia, Moratuwa and Panadura stations.

The relief items which are needed for the affected people include Kitchen utensils, cleaning equipment, dry rations, clothes for school children and adults, bed sheets, pillow covers, towels, women's sanitary products, mosquito nets, Dettol, Harpic and soaps, medical drugs, school stationery, toys and books for libraries.

The relief items collected through this humanitarian mission will be distributed among the affected people.
